I was born in 1963 in Fort
Scott, KS. Fort Scott is also the boyhood home of one of my heros, renowned photographer Gordon
Parks. My interest in photography evolved as part of a larger interest
in the outdoors and wildlife. As the son of a high school biology
teacher and avid fisherman and hunter I was constantly outdoors fishing and
hunting with my dad. The lessons learned on these adventures helped
guide me toward a biology degree at Ottawa University.
Photography got a grip on me during high school. Some of my first
memorable photos are from summer camping trips to Colorado. I am self taught.
I read everything I can get my hands on but most of my knowledge comes from
making many, many mistakes. The education never stops.
